Prime-Movers, or Prime Biokinetic-Chains, are the chains of muscle-groups that are the main-engines behind the sport.
These “Major Players” in Soccer are all members of the Posterior-Chain, also called the Extensor–Chain. They consist of:
Gastrocnemius(calf)
The Hamstrings-Group
The Gluteus Maximus and
The Lumbar-Erectors(Lower-Back Muscles).
Out of the above, the Hamstrings and the Lower Back are by far the most essential.
These four muscles/muscle-groups are not the only structures to be addressed, not the only ones important.
BUT you might well say they are the MORE important ones for soccer-performance, hence we emphasize them in our training.
The other top-priority lower-body structures for soccer are: The VMO(Vastus Medialis Oblique) and the major-players, as it were, of the hip:Psoas, Rectus Femoris,the Adductors and Piriformis. The Sartorius is one more soccer-muscle that needs attention in a Prehab/Rehab-Sense.

By the way, the abs are NOT of great significance in soccer.It’s not that they are totally unimportant muscles.They are just not near as important as they usually are made out to be.Generally speaking, the abdominals are not force-producers, but force-transmitters, linking the lower- to the upper-body and vice versa.Also they add stability to the physique as a whole.So we do address them, but we give them exactly as much attention as they deserve, not more, not less !;-)
